The work as described by the Pretoria Art Museum:
"The grotesque figure of a seated pelican is thin and elongated with the heavy beak pointed upwards. Like other sculptors he often seeks a suggestion of form in the branch or stump of wood that he wants to use. He uses his phantasy and imagination to, as it were, release the form in his found material. This piece is smooth and shiny with a polished surface, whereas many of Sithole's other works have a finely etched textural surface."
